Between the reading Boys Will Be Boys and the film Mansome there were several things they had in common. One connection I noticed between the two were in Boys Will Be Boys it said, "As women become more self confident, men are losing their nerve" and in Mansome it explained that society told men to "stop acting like men" resulting in an identity crisis. I think the two are trying to explain that the way man have acted and thought about their appearance before isn't what is now socially acceptable. Men used to be so confident and not have to worry about their appearance but now they have to work hard to look like they didn't try hard to look the way they do.

Another connection between the two were in Mansome it explained that mens health magazines are making men more vain and in Boys Will Be Boys it says that mens goals may not have changed that much but the way to achieve them has. I think mens health magazines are one of the platforms that is influencing mens goals on what to be like.

The last connection between Boys Will Be Boys and Mansome was that men are finally allowed to express themselves. In Boys Will Be Boys it said that the masculine style has become flexible and negotiable. Mansome also explains that in Africa men have inflicted scars, put clay in their hair, and pierced themselves all to decorate themselves whereas in the US men are finally allowed to decorate themselves. This connection shows that as time has gone by men in the US have slowly been gaining the power and courage to truly express and decorate themselves how they wish.
