One of the motivations we have when it comes to games is biochemistry. In Why We Play it talks about how during play our brains release chemicals to make us feel happy and activates our reward system. We like the chemicals that get released during games because of how good we feel so it makes us want to continue play and continue receiving the good feelings. Jane McGonigal also touches base on biochemistry when it comes to play. McGonigal explains that we don't have bad feelings during play. This is the same aspect that Why We Play touched base on that further explains the point we feel good not bad during play.

Another motivation when it comes to play and games is social contact. Jane McGonigal says that we like people better after we've played a game with them. This means that once we can find something in common with someone that we can bond with we will be able to make a better connection with them. Why We Play explains that with games you can play with others in person or online. Being able to play with others brings people together to form relationships. These relationships you make will have you wanting to continuing to play games to keep making relationships.
