When the story of the Duke University student who was participating in porn became public, a lot of people voiced their opinions. The story got so much attention it ended up on news stations. The Young Turks and The View were two platforms that discussed the topic.
The View and The Young Turks both believed that the girl who was "outed" as in her real identity was reviled, should not have gotten so much back lash. When the fraternity at Duke outed the young woman she began to receive death threats, rape threats, and slut shamed. The Young Turks said "These guys are coming from a place of jealousy." and "There was no reason to make a big deal out of it." Whoopi Goldberg from The View explained to the young woman that she "totally understands where you're coming from." Both platforms understood that the young lady was just trying to pay her tuition by doing something she enjoys.
On the other hand though, at one point on The View a hostess says her "heart breaks for you" to the Duke student. This hostess did not agree or understand why the student was participating in pornography. When the girl reveled that she has been watching porn since she was 12 this made the hostess almost pity her when in reality the average age is 14 of someone who first witnesses porn. The Young Turks were on the young woman's side and believed in her choices whereas the hostess on The View wasn't as understanding.
Overall the topic of the Duke student had been reported on in several different ways focusing on several different parts of the story. Some made comments empowering her and being understanding while others wanted to pity the young woman. In the end no one was afraid to voice their opinion on the topic which resulted in both slut shaming and women sexuality empowerment.

I enjoyed the topics you hit upon in this blog post. you hit upon all of the points with just enough clarity that it made it easy for me to read. I also found that your transitions between topics was really well done.
