When the story of the Duke University student who was participating in porn became public, a lot of people voiced their opinions. The story got so much attention it ended up on news stations. The Young Turks and The View were two platforms that discussed the topic. The View and The Young Turks both believed that the girl who was "outed" as in her real identity was reviled, should not have gotten so much back lash. When the fraternity at Duke outed the young woman she began to receive death threats, rape threats, and slut shamed.  The Young Turks said "These guys are coming from a place of jealousy." and "There was no reason to make a big deal out of it." Whoopi Goldberg from The View explained to the young woman that she "totally understands where you're coming from." Both platforms understood that the young lady was just trying to pay her tuition by doing something she enjoys. On the other hand though, at one point on The View a hostess ...

"Fake love" is known as an extreme and perfect representation of love. Everything involved in fake love seems to fall into place for the two lovers involved. Cinderella and Prince Charming are an example of fake love because Charming goes through out the whole country having women try on a shoe to find the one person the shoe fit, this is part of everything falling into place for Cinderella and Charming. Having every woman try on the shoe was also very extreme all for love. The most unrealistic part of the fairy tail would have to be Charming going through out the whole country to find one woman as mentioned as before. There is no way a prince could spend that much time, money, and energy into attempting to find a woman he doesn't even know the real identity of when there are far more important things for a prince to be doing, like ruling his country. The myth of romance that fits into the Cinderella story is, "The right mate "completes you" by filling your...

The mean world syndrome is a result of cultivation theory. Cultivation theory is the belief that watching TV a lot leads us to think that it represents reality. When people watch TV they are only told about the negative sides of the world like murders, robberies, rape, etc. Because we are only shown these negative aspects on the news we believe that is how the whole world is, resulting in a mean world. As a result of the mean world syndrome racial minorities are the most affected. In Mean World Syndrome  it demonstrates that in TV shows and movies racial minorities are almost always shown in a negative aspect. One example from Mean World Syndrome is Hispanic Americans are the most violent group on American TV shown as part of the drug cartel. Another example from the film is black people are shown smarter, richer, etc. in TV to show there is no race problem, while in the news black people are twice as likely to be shown committing a crime than white people. All of these depictions ...

In Timothy Caulfield's interview I found that he mentioned how kids used to want to be astronauts and doctors when they grow up to now wanting to be a celebrity, actor, singer or even famous to be very important. He explains how kids now believe that becoming famous is part of the American dream. I found this statement to be a very important part of the interview because it shows how our culture is shaping these kids to want to be something that has a very slim to no chance of happening. Instead of wanting to be doctors which there is a shortage of they just want fame. The second part of the interview I found to be the most important was when Caulfield talked about how people would pay thousands of dollars to participate in a modeling completion in hopes of becoming famous. Caulfield actually went to one of these competitions and witnessed the scam happen right in front of him. Knowing that people would willing pay these scammers thousands of dollars just to become famous really sh...
